Preparing Your House For Exterior Painting
To figure how much paint you’ll need: add the length of all sides of the house; then multiply the product by the house’s height (plus two for overhang). Now divide the total square footage of your project by the coverage rate displayed on the paint can you’ve selected.
Surface preparation:
1) scrape off loose paint
2) use sandpaper to dull the surface
3) use a pressure washer with commercial cleaning solution to wash the surface of the house and rinse thoroughly
4) let dry least 24 hours before painting.
Now you’re ready to begin painting. Take your time and do a thorough job, and you'll have added value to your home, slowed deterioration and given yourself a sense of accomplishment.
And remember: sometimes hiring a painter is the better option, especially if the magnitude of this project is too much.
